4) Physcal Dimensions :
Mass: Mass per meter run of the pipes can also be worked out by the formula as under
M = (D-T) xTx0.0246615
Where, M- Mass of the pipe Kg/m
D-Nominal Outside Dia of the tube, mm
T- Nominal thickness of the tube, mm
The tolerance of mass per cart load f 10 tones or above shall be ± 705 percent on the nominal theoretical mass of the tubes.
Outside Diameter :
Outside Diameter (For all sizes) |
Tolerance |
For seamless pipes |
± 1% |
For ERW & SAW pipes |
± 0.75% |
Wall Thicness :
Outside Diameter (For all sizes) |
Tolerance |
For ERW pipes |
± 10% |
For SAW& seamless pipes |
+20%, -12.5% |
Length :
The permissible variation shall be -0, +10 mm for length up to and including 6 m.

7) Hydraulic Pressure Test :
Each pipe shall be hydraulic tested at the manufacturer’s works before the pipe is coated, wrapped and lined.
The hydraulic test pressure shall be applied for 5 secs.
P = 2 ST/D
Where
P = Hydraulic test pressure MPa,
D = specified outside dia of the pipe in mm
T = Specified thickness of teh tube in mm
S = stress 60% of the specified minimum yield stress in MPa. The max test pressure is limited to 5 MPa whre ever applicable.
